Zakir Naik was in town yesterday.
The salafist televangelist millionaire, who makes a fortune off entertaining and reassuring apprehensive 'Muslims' worldwide, was invited the Maldivian Ministry of Islamic Affairs to speak to the hordes of average Maldivians who now live in eternal fear of losing their religion.
That Zakir Naik is an unqualified quack is beside the point. (The MoIA found nothing odd about permitting his wife and 9th grader son to preach to lesser Muslims like the Maldivians)
But one might be forgiven for asking :
After all the public money spent on organizing this massive fest, flying in the con-man and his family at government expense, accommodating the blessed family in posh resorts (far beyond the reach of the ordinary Maldivians gathered in the heat to watch their theatrics) and buying hours of live prime-time TV coverage for the brainwashing event... couldn't Zakir Naik at least have had the decency to write a fresh speech?
His 9th grader son dug up and repeated verbatim a stale old speech from his dad's repertoire (Quoted on Yaamyn's blog) The wife parroted the same speech in a separate women's event.
And what about Zakir Naik, the man with the blessed tongue? The Man at whose feet the Ministry's coffers are willingly emptied? Didn't he think it might be appropriate to speak something original for all that cash burned on him?
Nah. He recycled an old speech too. Never even bothered changing the words or the examples.
Why go through the added trouble of penning a few words when the assembled hordes would lap up any salafist bullshit, layered with heaps of propaganda for the Adhaalath Party?
Congratulations, Ministry of Adhaalath Affairs. Thank you for wasting millions of our money, so that we may hear staid old speeches that we have already heard on Peace TV before.
Maldivians swallow another humiliation from Arab-wannnabes. Salafism rules!
